How To Choose An SPS Furnace For Advanced Ceramics And Powder Materials

Start with the process window, not the model name

An SPS inquiry is a configuration review. Confirm material chemistry, target density or microstructure goal, die or sample size, pressing load, temperature measurement method, and vacuum or inert-gas needs before comparing S1, S2, S3, or S4.

Size the tooling stack, not only the finished part

Send die diameter, die height, spacers, punches, and clearance. The useful work envelope is the full conductive tooling stack. Catalogue sample-diameter ranges are references until the tooling drawing is reviewed.

Decide laboratory, pilot, or production intent early

S1 is the usual laboratory entry for compact screening. S2 and S3 extend load and work-zone for pilot trials. S4 and continuous variants are reviewed only when repeatable batches and higher tooling envelopes are confirmed.

Compare SPS with hot pressing on purpose

Prefer SPS when rapid current-assisted cycles and conductive dies matter most. Prefer vacuum hot pressing when larger mechanical tooling, longer holds, or a resistance-heated hot zone fit the route better. Use the SPS vs hot pressing guide when both remain plausible.

Prepare the quotation brief

Include material, temperature, load, die size, atmosphere, utilities, destination country, and whether a lab trial is needed. Then open the SPS product overview or S-series page and submit a technical review request.
